History/Heritage Month Celebrations | DEV Intercultural Student Programs

Georgia Tech is committed to developing leaders who advance technology and improve the human condition. History/Heritage Months at Georgia Tech celebrate the vast cultures and communities which comprise a campus of more than 50,000 students, faculty and staff from 50 states and 149 countries. Through innovative activities and social events open to the community regardless of background, they provide a space for teaching, learning, reflection, and belonging across groups at Georgia Tech.

History/Heritage Month events are led by Intercultural Student Programs (ISP), a unit in the Division of Arts, Belonging, and Community, in conjunction with other departments and units around the Institute. ISP serves all students through programs and services that align with Georgia Tech’s strategic goals, including but not limited to, Amplifying Impact, Connecting Globally, and Cultivating Well-Being.

Signature Events

Black History Month

February is dedicated as Black History Month, honoring the triumphs and struggles of African Americans throughout U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.
Throughout Black History Month, events on the Georgia Tech campus and around the city of Atlanta will celebrate Black culture and engage community members in thought-provoking discussions hosted by student organizations and various campus partners. View a timeline of Black History at Georgia Tech.

Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month

AAPI Heritage Month is nationally recognized in the month of May, while the Georgia Tech community typically celebrates this month in April due to the academic calendar. AAPI heritage month recognizes the contributions and influence of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and other Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. The campus engages in constructive dialogues, vibrant cultural performances and community partnerships.

Latino Welcome Celebration

The annual Latino Welcome Celebration is a flagship event held during the first week of the fall semester. New and returning students of all backgrounds celebrate and experience the rich tapestry of Hispanic/Latinx culture through food, music, and performances, as well as connecting with other students, faculty, staff, GT offices, and student organizations.

Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15 – October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month. This annual observance is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements, histories, traditions, diversity, and vibrant culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

Native American/Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month

November is nationally recognized as Native American Heritage Month. During National Native American Heritage Month, we honor the history, rich cultures, and vast contributions of Native peoples.
