A Brief History of AAPI Initiatives at Georgia Tech

April 2023

The Undergraduate and Graduate Houses of Representatives for the Student Government Association passed a resolution to explore strategies for enhancing support for Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) students on campus.

Fall 2023 – Spring 2024

In order to better assess student needs and priorities, an ad hoc work group focusing on AAPI student issues was appointed by Student Engagement and Well-Being (SEWB) in Fall 2023 and met throughout Spring 2024.

February – March 2024

SEWB hosted three open town hall meetings to discuss the needs and concerns of AAPI students at Georgia Tech. Invitations were extended to all GT students, including presidents of active, recognized student organizations (RSO). The town hall meetings resulted in robust and enthusiastic conversations that covered a wide range of issues, concerns, and suggestions.

September - December 2024

Based on the data collected from the ad hoc work group and town hall meetings, a need was identified for an inaugural assistant director for AAPI educational services. The hiring process began in December 2024
